Bonner states, "The course has it's roots in the sayings of
Jesus, but helps us to understand how our own thinking can create
problems for ourselves, and how to change that thinking with the
support of a caring spiritual group. Over time, ACIM changes lives.
I can testify to that with my own life, and the lives of many of my
student/teachers."
Before going to college, Helen Bonner was a wife
and mother, a secretary and news reporter in the Placerville area.
Later, Dr. Bonner became a writer and then a college professor at Minnesota State University, where she taught, among other things, World Literature. "Thats where I began to see that all great religions teach the same thing -- God is Love, Love your neighbor as Yourself, Help those Less Fortunate. Trust. Be grateful. Forgive as you are forgiven. -- But we all find it difficult to practice what we preach. ACIM helps."
Bonner's last two books, First Love Last, a memoir, and Cry Dance, Literary Fiction, are based on ACIM's principles. "Too much of our culture focuses on revenge, triumph over others, or finding someone to make our life perfect with no effort on our part," she says. "We need all the help we can get to counteract those unhealthy influences. ACIM can give us that."
Before getting her PHD in Literature/Communication from Ohio University in l980, she taught in Community colleges in California and Texas.
